Homeopathy is based on the principle of 'like cures like'. This means that a substance which has the power to cause certain symptoms in a well person, can treat those same symptoms in a person who is ill.

For example, Allium cepa, the homeopathic remedy made from red onion, is effective for hay fever with burning, watering eyes and a running nose, similar to the effects experienced when chopping onions. The plant Belladonna, if taken accidentally in high doses causes fever, delirium and dilated pupils.  In homeopathic form it will help to quickly and safely bring down a high fever.

The word 'homeopathy' has Greek roots meaning 'same disease'. In other words, like cures like.
